Vegan chocolate gets its sweetness and flavor from pure cocoa, vanilla, and other sweeteners like maple syrup, coconut sugar or Yacon syrup. Additionally, a non-animal-derived source of lecithin must be present (some contain eggs).

A few vegan chocolate brands use milk alternatives, making the chocolate sweeter without animal products.
